How about setting up a Hot Line for Nepotism, Cronyism and corruption… Not forgetting defrauding pensioners and protecting himself with Decrees…

Minister for Education Aiyaz Sayed‑Khaiyum

The Minister for Education Aiyaz Sayed‑Khaiyum says they are going to set up a hot line to deal with complaints regarding the Education system.

Sayed-Khaiyum highlighted that sometimes parents call media organizations instead of the Ministry of Education to raise their issue but they do not necessarily tell the truth.

He adds that people can channel complaints through the Ministry’s hot line as it gives a better mechanism to see things through this complaints.

Sayed-Khaiyum says they have some parents that say that their son or their daughter is not being accepted but then they find there are issues pertaining to discipline and various other issues.

Fijivillage had highlighted an incident whereby a Year 12 student of Jai Narayan College who has been part of the school since year 9 was told to look for another school by the Principal.

The father of the student says that the list of students that had already been given a place in Year 13 had scored more than 300 marks whereas his son had scored 219.

The parent confirmed that after discussing this issue with the Ministry of Education, they were informed that his son can attend Year 13 in another school in the Samabula area.

Sayed‑Khaiyum states that they have referred this complaint so the Ministry of Education will speak directly to the school.
