Since independence in 1970, this last seven years have probably been the most earth-shaking for indigenous Fijians as a community, yet Fijian intellectuals seem to be in public hibernation.
A military dictatorship, with unknown advisers, is bringing about major changes to Fijian institutions: the Great Council of Chiefs has been supposedly abolished; provincial governance structures reorganized; the laws of management of communally owned Fijian land and marine resources (some with serious environmental impacts); flagship Fijian companies such as Fijian Holdings Limited have been reorganized; controls have been placed on Fijian churches and villages; Fijian cultural symbols are being changed by decree, without their consent.
Massive changes in economic policy are affecting not just Fijians but all Fiji citizens in: taxation and expenditure of tax-payer funds, privatization and sale of public assets, restructuring of pension funds, controversial approval for new industries such as casinos and mines, a huge increase in public debt that must be paid for by future generations which will be increasingly indigenous Fijian, and much more.
The views of the Bainimarama Regime leaders are prominent every day on radio, television and in the newspapers, with extremely limited coverage given to opposing political leaders.
It is dismaying therefore that there is a deafening silence from Fijian intellectuals from the universities and the private sector- with the exception of a few rare individuals such as Ratu Joni Madraiwiwi or young youth leaders like Peter Waqavonovono. Continue reading

Today, 24 hours after the price of gasoline had been marginally reduced I drove into one of Fiji’s leading fuel retailers large filling station, only to be told that they had no gasoline in stock.
Who gave them due warning that the price of gasoline was going down yesterday so they could run their stocks down prior to the event.
Was it the same person who told them it was going to be increased on the last adjustment so they could fill storage tanks to the brim.
What do YOU think…? Corruption is still alive and thriving in Fiji ….

Fiji Airways is the property of the people of Fiji, they deserve to be honestly informed.
There can be no doubt that the Coat of Immunity woven by the Attorney Generals office is working to the detriment of transparency and accountability.
What is your opinion ?

“Act Against Corruption Now,” FICAC Deputy Commissioner George Langman said, “We should all get together and co-operate with each other to be successful.
“Celebrating this day signifies a milestone in the fight against corruption; it is a reflection of the Government’s commitment to genuinely fight corruption that has affected our country”.
These were the words uttered by George Langman in Churchill Park in December 2012.
In less than one year from the date of this address, the unelected, government appointed Administrator for Lautoka City had sold a large section of Churchill Park ( Where George Langman spouted his meaningless address), without going to tender and without consulting Lautoka rate payers or any of the sporting groups who use the recreational area.
Strangely he sold it to Tappoos, the business organization much favoured by Fiji’s Attorney General, who coincidentally is the Minister that George Langman reports to.
The final straw was the ground breaking ceremony was performed by our erstwhile Prime Minister who seems to see nothing wrong with any aspect of this transaction.
Corruption is not dead in Fiji , it is being practiced daily by people who should know better.
Will George Langman investigate this.. WHAT DO YOU THINK. ??

Fast Talking High Flying David Pflieger
Fiji Airways new Managing Director and CEO Stefan Pichler recently stated to the media that Fiji Airways had lost millions of dollars due to failing to keep to scheduled flights in the early to mid part of 2013 AFTER TAKING DELIVERY OF AIRBUS AIRCRAFT.
He further stated that Air Pacific had spent millions of dollars on consultants during the past three years. ( Friends and associates of Dave Pflieger?)
Coincidentally that was the period that the Attorney General sang David Pfliegers praises and danced to whatever tune he whistled.
Was the Attorney General Pfooled by David PFlieger?, it is a safe bet he was, will he ever admit it?, NEVER.
Did Fiji NEED to BUY the Airbus aircraft?, of course not, there are plenty available for leasing.
Did we need replacement aircraft?, YES, but it would have made much more economic sense to use Boeing Aircraft since all our pilots are familiar with them.
The fact that seems to have been ignored is that Fiji Airways / Air Pacific belongs to the People of Fiji and Qantas, it is not a toy for the Attorney General to play with and he should be accountable to the people and the courts of Fiji for his incompetence..
Oh dear, we forgot, he has given himself total immunity..
