This is the Man of History who led us to freedom in the darkest days of tyranny and oppression: Never, Never, Never Give Up! Yet we are on the cusp of preparing to jettison Fiji’s history – so hard won at such huge loss of human life – as depicted on a ‘Noble Banner Blue’. Why would or should we do this? By all means consider the arguments. But in 2015 the 800th Anniversary of the sealing of Magna Carta by King John is being celebrated around the Free World. The rights of individuals to freedom from unjust oppression began at Runnymede in 1215. Maybe this is the true foundation of the Rule of Law and should require our earnest, studied and deepest respect?
